There are many ways to play computer chess and there are also major benefits to deciding to play chess on the computer. Because of the popularity of chess, it is accessible everywhere, from websites to chess software games, to online chess forums and game rooms.

•	One way to play computer chess is by buying or downloading chess software. Unlike computer chess that is played online, chess software will usually charge. There are many variations of chess software that can be purchased online or that can be bought in any store that sells electronic items. Chess software is sometimes installed directly into someone computer system before they buy it, making it immediately available. Serious chess players often buy more advanced computer chess programs for their computer.

•	Computer chess has some benefits that playing at home or in a group does not. If an individual is playing against a robot, that robot will have a certain skill level that an individual will have to compete against, although that level can usually be set. Chess software is designed so that it is literally impossible to cheat. There is no way of making illegal moves since the chess software literally will not allow it. Because of this, an individual playing computer chess cannot bend any rules and must play every chess game in a fair manner. This is beneficial when learning how to play the game of chess properly. No one playing can bend the rules when playing computer chess.

•	Computer chess is great for individuals who want a constant opportunity to play chess without the need of playing with other live individuals. Chess software will make simulated characters for an individual to play against and playing computer chess online will give the individual a huge choice of opponents from all over the world. Playing computer chess against such a large variety of individuals will improve an individual’s skill level by giving them an opportunity to step away from their regular opponents and practice against new people from all different skill levels and backgrounds.

Chess is a game that can be played by oneself, but most serious players prefer to play against others. Computer chess gives an individual the opportunity to have a willing opponent no matter what the time of day or night it is. While playing chess software will often give an individual the chance to play against a computer, playing computer chess online will pit the individual against another real contestant.

Playing chess requires a knowledge of what chess tactics should be used in an average chess game. Any player who wants to improve their chess game should know some strategy and chess tactics. A chess tactic is a short order of moves which limit the opponent’s choices of play. A successful chess tactic results in a gain for the individual. Chess tactics are used for twisting an opponent’s mistake and using them for the individual’s advantage. Many games of chess are lost because of a mistaken chess tactic.

•	The simplest chess tactic involves capturing the opponent’s chess piece. Since the point of the game of chess is to result in the opponent king’s checkmate, this is easiest accomplished when one opponent takes down the other opponents chess pieces, leaving their king defenseless. A chess tactic that involves one opponent capturing the other opponent’s undefended piece is called capturing a piece “en prise” and is a common chess tactic. Chess tactics can sometimes involve one chess piece attacking two or more of their opponent’s pieces at once. This chess tactic is called a fork. Although every chess piece, even the least powerful pawns can fork, the knights are best known for it.

•	Another common chess tactic is called a pin. A pin involves making sure that the opponent’s chess pieces have very limited movement. The way to create a pin is by attacking an opponent’s chess piece in a way so that if it moves at all, a more valuable piece of theirs will be captured. This chess tactic occurs when a particular chess piece is in front of a more valuable chess piece. Unlike with forks, chess tactics involving pins can only be performed by queens, bishops and rooks. An absolute pin is a chess tactic that depends on the location of the king. If the pinned piece is in front of the king, then it cannot move, since it’s an illegal move for an individual to put their own king in check.

•	Another chess tactic is a skewer. Skewers look like pins but they actually work in reverse. Chess tactics involving skewers happen when a valuable chess piece is attacked and has to move to avoid an inevitable capture. Skewers leave chess pieces that aren’t as valuable behind to be taken instead. Skewers can only be made by bishops, queen, and rooks.

These are some of the most basic chess tactics that can be used by an individual to improve their chess game. Although there are other complicated chess tactics that can be learned as a player advances, using these chess tactics to start can be beneficial to a beginner.

When playing chess, learning about what chess moves each individual chess piece is allowed to make legally can help an indivudal’s chess game immensely. Good chess moves can a person win a game of chess while bad chess moves can make one lose, even if the person is experienced. While there are 16 total chess pieces on each side of the board, there are only six different kinds: the pawns, the bishop, the knights, the rooks, the queen and the king. Each chess piece has a different set of moves they can make and directions that they can go in. When making chess moves, it is important to know the rules and functions of each piece.

•	The pawns are eight pieces that block the more powerful chess pieces, such as the king, the queen, the knights, the bishop, and the rooks. When looking at a chess board, it should be set up in way so that the eight pawns are in the second to last row to the player. The first chess move will always be made by a pawn. The pawn is considered the least valuable chess piece but it is also the one that will be responsible for making a lot of the chess moves and setting up larger chess moves for strategies. Pawns can move one square forward, although they cannot capture any opponents chess pieces this way. They can only capture if they move one square diagonally. In a chess move where a pawn is still in the starting line up, it can move two squares up instead of one.

•	The knights are the only pieces that can jump over other pieces. One should be aware that in a chess move, the knight making a jump can only capture an opposing piece if it lands directly on the square of that piece. A chess move that involves a knight jumping over an enemy piece does not mean it has captured it. When playing a chess move, a knight can move one square diagonally in any direction and one square vertically or horizontally. This chess move is called being L-shaped.

•	The rook can move any number of squares that are free as long as they are in straight line. When using the rook in a chess move, it is able to capture an opponent’s piece by landing on the square that the opponent is on. This is true of all chess moves by the six different pieces. The bishop, in a chess move, can move diagonally for as many spaces are unoccupied, while it is in a straight line. Because of this, the bishop will always be on the same color square.

•	The queen is the most important and powerful chess piece to be used in any chess move. As long as the line is a straight direction, the queen can move in any direction for as long as the squares are unoccupied. The last piece is the king. Although it is the most important chess piece, mobility is limited to moving one square in any direction.

All other pieces work to protect the king with their chess moves. A scenario in which the king cannot avoid being captured by the opponents, he is in checkmate and the game is over.

Playing chess games are a very popular hobby in the United States and worldwide. There are types of chess players, from beginners and those who play for fun, to serious and ranked players who actually play chess games for a living. No matter what type of chess player an individual is or how skilled they are, every player wants to improve their chess game. There are many ways to improve one’s chess game.

•	The best way to improve one’s chess game is to practice. The more times that someone participates in a chess game, the more knowledge he will gain about the sport. This can be true of any activity of course, from basketball to piano. Improving one’s chess game takes experience, time and patience. These are three things that an individual will gain when playing chess games repeatedly. Learning new ways to solve chess problems in a chess game comes from an individual seeing various layouts of the chess board, which can only come with extreme amounts of practice. Although playing a chess game can be considered a form of practice, constantly playing chess games can give an individual the chance to put their practice into good use by playing against an opponent.

•	Along with playing multiple chess games for trying new strategic moves, playing longer chess games can help an individual’s chess game even more. When an individual plays a long chess game then their brain is actively thinking of the game for a long period of time. This helps them improve on the skill of concentration. An individual can also use long games to help them learn about time management and analyzing skills.

•	Another way to improve one’s chess game is to study the games of chess experts and masters. By watching what others have done to become extremely accomplished at chess, one can learn what moves may work and not work in a chess game. It can also be very beneficial to make note of the mistakes that the individual themselves have made in the past so that they can concentrate on their problem areas. Once an individual knows their weaknesses in a chess game, they begin to work on them specifically and build up their skill level.

•	If it can be afforded, private lessons can be very beneficial. This is not an option for most people, although serious chess players almost always have a coach to guide the players and to help them improve their chess game. Private chess lessons are arguably the quickest way to improve one’s chess game. It should be mentioned that the best chess players may outrank their teachers eventually and actually be better than they at chess games. However, having an experienced chess teacher to help improve one’s chess game gives an individual the one-on-one coaching that may help them improve their chess game, no matter how skilled they are.

With all the ways to improve one’s chess game, it’s very possible to gain experience by practicing and becoming better at the game. Chess can be practiced anytime and with the help of online websites that offer chess games, there are almost no excuses for an individual not to practice their chess game in the hopes of improving.

In terms of board games, chess is a game that may rely more on strategy than any other. When one is beginning to play chess, they are often taught simple chess strategies, while a more complicated chess strategy will be used by a skilled chess player with experience. Either way, any individual who wants to pick up the game of chess must understand chess strategies.

•	It is not possible to calculate what chess strategy a player can use for a chess game before beginning the game itself. Chess strategies rely on looking at both the moves of oneself and the individual. Even the highest tech of computers cannot tell what an entire chess game is going to look like. However, after the first move is played, a guess can be made at several the chess moves that will be made within that particular player’s chess strategy. A person’s chess strategy reflects their skill level when it comes to playing the game.

•	The chess strategies that people choose can vary drastically from player to player. Devising a chess strategy relies on not only the value of the pieces but on an individual’s knowledge of evaluating the position of the opponents chess pieces. During any chess game, chess pieces will be exchanged amongst players as certain pieces are captured. Sometimes, the trade of chess pieces can be used within an individual’s chess strategy, if they are aware of what they are doing. Meanwhile, a beginner’s chess strategy can be improved by knowing the exact value of every chess piece. This can determine chess strategies by having an individual know what power the chess piece has and how much use it can be to have the chess piece back on the board.

•	For the most part, chess pieces should be traded following a chess strategy that will allow the pieces that have the most power over the opponent’s chess pieces. These pieces should be able to capture as many opponents as possible. Not every chess piece is equal and person’s chess strategy should reflect that. As a for instance, pawns, which is the most basic of chess pieces only have a value of one. An individual gets eight pawns to play with and because of this, they are usually the first to be sacrificed in many peoples’ chess strategies. Chess pieces are valued on how many pawns they are able to defeat. On the other hand, protecting the queen is very important in many peoples’ chess strategies because the queen is worth nine points. The king has indefinite value since losing the king means a checkmate, and a defeat.

Although chess strategies change from players to player, the basis for having a smart chess strategy relies mostly on knowing how every chess piece works and what they are worth. Knowing the opponents chess strategy is not always possible, but if one does know their opponent and knows the moves they tend to make, then a chess strategy can be formed off that alone.

Playing chess online can be very different from playing in one’s own home. Although the basic rules of chess still apply to the online chess game, there are many aspects of playing chess online that will be different. Some of these things can be considered beneficial when learning how to play chess or being an accomplished chess player that is looking for new opponents to play.

•	There are many gamings websites on the Internet; in fact, there are millions of them. Online chess websites are very common, since chess is a popular game of strategy that is played by millions of people all over the world. Playing chess online can have a lot of advantages that playing at home does not. One advantage to playing chess online is that an individual who wants to play chess will always find a willing online chess playing participant. With millions of individuals playing chess online every day, an individual will have no shortage of online chess partners to choose from. These individuals will have various skill levels and most online chess websites will allow the individual to pick which skill level he or she wants to compete with.

•	Playing chess online gives an individual the opportunity to meet more chess players than they would ever have a chance to meet if there were no online chess website. Even if an individual belongs to a chess club or has friends that play chess, there will always be a time when no one feels like playing or when the chess club is not meeting. This is when online chess comes in especially handy. Playing chess online can also give an individual the opportunity to boost their skill level considerably. If someone is used to playing chess against the same group of people, there may be a lack of challenge as individuals learn the other players’ strengths and weaknesses. One can find a new online chess opponent whenever they like. Playing chess online against a new person can give someone the chance to branch out in terms of gaining chess skills.

•	Playing chess online also gives an individual the advantage of having a constant online tutorial handy. This is especially beneficial for beginners who do not know any real chess moves or strategy yet. Online chess tutorials will give the rules, strategies, tips and special moves that are associated with playing chess, whether the game be online chess or not.

While playing chess within a club, with a friend or alone is still popular, more and more chess players are joining online communities that exist to play chess online.

Many people want to learn how to play chess. Millions of people from all over the world play chess and the sport is thousands of years old. To learn chess, especially how to play chess with real skill, takes time and an understanding of how the game of chess works. To play chess with skill requires practice and patience, as an individual is beginning to learn chess. On important aspect of learning how to play chess is knowing how to set up the chess board properly.

•	A chess board is designed with eight rows and eight columns with alternating dark and light squares for the chess pieces to move within. To learn chess, it’s a good idea to know what the chess board should look like, and if there are any mistakes that need to be corrected. A proper chess board is positioned so that a light square is located in the lower right handed side of the chess board. This will also be true for the player on the opposite side of the board. When learning how to play chess, the player should know which chess piece goes into which square.

•	When the board is set up for play, the light queen has to be on a light square in the row closest to the player and dark queen has to mirror that chess piece. To learn chess, one should know immediately if a piece is in the wrong place because either side of the chess board should mirror the other side. The light side always makes the first move. There are eight pawns on either side of the chess board that make up the second row away from the player. Behind the pawns are the two bishops, the two knights, the two rooks, one queen, and one king.

•	The pawns are the first chess pieces to be sent into the chess battle. Each chess piece can move in different directions and in different ways, except for the pawns who all have the same moves and power.

Since one who wants to learn chess has an extensive list of things to remember, the set up of the chess board is the foundation on which that knowledge is built. Before someone can learn how to play chess using the moves and strategies that chess relies on, setting up the chess board is the first thing they should know how to do.

The game of chess is thousands of years old. Chess went from being a sport that was enjoyed by only the wealthy and intellectual to a mainstream one that millions people from all countries of the world play. Learning how to play chess is a complicated process but many choose to learn how anyway. Chess is a challenging game that relies heavily on logic and it is even said to increase a child’s ability to problem-solve and perform mathematics.

•	Playing chess can be fun or competitive, depending on the individual’s view on the sport. The first step when playing chess is setting up the chess board. There are one opponent on either side of the chess board and each opponent has 16 chess pieces. Each player gets eight pawns, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, a king and queen. To play chess, one should be aware of what the basic legal movements and functions of each of the these pieces are, since they are all different.

•	Some of the chess pieces have much more freedom when it comes to navigating the board while other chess pieces have limited movement. The queen is entitled to move in any direction for as many spaces possible while the king is only allowed one move in any direction. Each person’s chess pieces are set up along the two checkered rows on the board that is closest to the player. One player is the white team and the other is the black team. The white team always moves a chess piece first. The reason to play chess is to capture the king, by cornering the chess piece in a way in which it has no escape.

•	No chess piece is allowed to occupy a square that already holds one of its fellow chess pieces. In other words, a chess piece can only land on a square that has an enemy player on it. If a chess piece lands on a square which is occupied by a piece from the other team, then that enemy chess piece is captured and becomes property of the capturing team.

•	To play chess and win means to capture the enemy’s king piece. This is accomplished by performing checkmate. A checkmate is situation in which the king cannot avoid being captured because he is surrounded by chess pieces of the opposing team. Once the king is in the checkmate position than the game is over.

The king doesn’t have to actually be captured for a checkmate to occur. A chess game can also end without a winner, if the opponents declare a draw. A draw occurs when there are no more moves that can be made to play chess in the particular game.
